WHAT I LEARNED WHEN I READ THE BIBLE
I learned God used the number 40 on many occasions, and it is often in relation to a spiritual truth, trial, or hardship. During the flood, the earth received rain for 40 days and nights. “For in seven days I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and every living thing that I have made I will blot out from the face of the ground.” And Noah did all that the Lord had commanded him.” (Genesis 7:4-5 ESV). Jesus was tempted 40 days and nights, and there were 40 days between the time of His resurrection and when He ascended to Heaven. Even a full-term pregnancy is 40 weeks. We must be careful not to put too much emphasis on numbers. Sometimes they are just that, numbers. But it is interesting to see how God uses time. It is just another mystery that allows us to watch in amazement and be reminded of His power, glory, and omniscience.
