Abram Obeyed the Call

WHAT I LEARNED WHEN I READ THE BIBLE

When we hear stories of Abraham, we assume he was always a man of God. Yet, I learned Abram (later called Abraham) was not necessarily a godly man at the time God called him. Abram lived in Mesopotamia (Acts 7:2-3), and we know the people of Mesopotamia worshipped thousands of different gods. I also learned Abram’s father, Terah, was a pagan and he, too, worshipped other gods (Joshua 24:2). Growing up in a godless home, surrounded by a godless culture, are we to assume Abraham devoutly followed God? We do not know. What we do know is when God called Abram, he obeyed the call. I love this story, because it shows God has a plan for each one of us, even those that might not follow Him. All we are called to do it…obey.
